Joe Hart

Joe Hart -

The England man was top-class in the first leg, but here he was simply stunning and didn't deserve to be on the losing side

9

Micah Richards

Micah Richards -

Forced into an unfamiliar position, and working over-time to cover for others, he was so unlucky on the penalty shout

7

Joleon Lescott

Joleon Lescott -

another one who found it tough in a new defensive line-up, but he grew and made some important interceptions

6

Stefan Savic

Stefan Savic -

the young lad has been put in the firing line and given a hard time of it, now he needs to get back to the training ground

4

Aleksandar Kolarov

Aleksandar Kolarov -

excellent delivery for Dzeko's goal, but his contributions were too few and far between to be effective

6

Pablo Zabaleta

Pablo Zabaleta -

fiercely competitive as well as a neat and effective footballer, he added to his iconic status among City fans

7

David Silva

David Silva -

City had hoped he would be the man to switch this tie around. He had his moments, but was not the dominant figure he usually is

7

Gareth Barry

Gareth Barry -

the mainstay of the City midfield was excellent but often on his own trying to stem the Liverpool attacks and launch Blue ones

7

Nigel de Jong

Nigel de Jong -

quite brilliant strike to haul the Blues back into the tie, but then stuck in a back three in an abortive experiment and later subbed

7

Samir Nasri

Samir Nasri -

After the step forward against Spurs, this was another step back as he was an anonymous figure for much of the game

5

Edin Dzeko

Edin Dzeko -

asked to plough a lone furrow in first half, he was not aggressive enough, but came up with a goal when given a partner

5

Substitutes

Adam Johnson

Adam Johnson -

(for de Jong 78) wasted one good chance

5

Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero -

(for Savic ht) couldn't find a yard

5

Poor starting eleven set up by Mancini on this occasion.
Joe Hart 10, Stefan Savic 1, Aleksandar Kolarov 4, Pablo Zabaleta 7,
Micah Richards 6, Joleon Lescott 5, Gareth Barry 7, Nigel de Jong 8, Samir Nasri 2, David Silva 4, Edin Dzeko 1, Adam Johnson 1, Sergio Aguero 1
Generous marks for Dzekoand Zab who struggled last night. Difficult to mark Sergio at all since I only remember him touching the ball once. Don't remember NDJ as paret of a back 3. We did have a back 3 first half which failed, but he wasn't one of them.
Kolarov and Savic pathetic should never play for city again. Although robbed by that cheat ref again
Pretty fair marks. Nasri continues to plough an enigmatic furrow in City colours though. His first half performance was quite satisfactory, but he became so anonymous in the second that I stared thinking I'd missed a substitution or something.
Joe Hart 10, Stefan Savic 4, Aleksandar Kolarov 3, Pablo Zabaleta 7, Micah Richards 7, Joleon Lescott 6, Gareth Barry 8, Nigel de Jong 6, Samir Nasri 5, David Silva 8, Edin Dzeko 5, Adam Johnson 5, Sergio Aguero 5 Great goal from Nigel but he really slows us down and then we expect Silva and Nasri to make it happen when the opposition have everyone behind the ball as it has taken us 15 passes back and to between Nigel and Lescott/Savic. As for Kolarov teams now know how easy it is to get behind him and one super cross is not justification of his place. Hart couldnt be faulted at all. Also without Vinny every single header we win at the back goes straight to the opposition! Joleon get some distance and direction on your headers mate!
Savic needs experience, won't get that on the training ground. Unfortunate he has had to try & step in such important games so early in his career with Vinnie banned & Kolo away
Think in Kompany's absence we've seen his value not just as a player but as a leader. Savic has the right to expect more support from Lescott but he's struggled with his own game in Vinnie's absence. If Lescott had been banned Savic would probably have performed better.
As for Kolarov well the odd great cross and odd free kick goal cannot disguise his failings especially in defence. I thought earlier in the season he loooked like he'd improved from last season but he hasn't. Priority area for the summer transfer window and until then I'd rather see Zaba at left back when Clichy doesn't play. If you have to play Kolarov then please only at home as he' consistently let us down away especially in Europe.
Joe Hart 9, Stefan Savic 1, Aleksandar Kolarov 2, Pablo Zabaleta 6, Micah Richards 6, Joleon Lescott 5, Gareth Barry 5, Nigel de Jong 6, Samir Nasri 6, David Silva 7, Edin Dzeko 5, Adam Johnson 4, Sergio Aguero 4
You give Garth Barry a 7 for defending but why, as he was the player who let Johnston skip through to pass the ball to Bellamy, as for attacking could you tell me were in the game he was involved in an attacking move, none that I can recall, he was always passing either to the side or back and not always successfully. He is the one player on our team that you can depend on to give the ball away in any attacking move through sloppy passing so I would give him a 3, as for the forwards they are only as good as the service they received and that was nil from this player!
