Former Liverpool trainee John Miles, signed from Crewe on deadline day, had a dream debut to hand Macclesfield a football league lifeline.

Coming on at half time, he scored with virtually his first touch, arrowing a low left foot drive to the far corner.

Sixty seconds later he picked out Danny Whitaker, who drilled home his 12th of the season from the edge of the box.

Macclesfield denied Kidderminster all but half chances, their defence working like tigers all afternoon.

And it was the Blues who might have added a third, Whitaker crunching a header against the upright on 78 minutes.

The win gave Macclesfield renewew hope of beating the drop and was vital after Swansea's win on Friday night.
