Macclesfield Town

Ince perfect for Macc

FORMER England captain and United ace Paul Ince is set to be the new guv'nor at Macclesfield Town.

Ince sat between Macc's Iraqi millionaire owners Amar and Bashar Alkhadi as he watched the crisis club's shambolic defence allow relegation rivals Bury run out 3-2 winners on Saturday.

The 39-year-old Ince, a veteran of 488 league games with 53 international caps may even get his boots back on to rescue Macc, at present marooned eight points adrift at the foot of League Two.

Though negotiations are on-going, Macc are thought to have smashed their wage structure to land the player-manager on a three-year deal scheduled to be unveiled on Wednesday.

Dynamo

The ex-Reds' midfield dynamo outshone other contenders including former Silkmen boss Sammy McIlroy, their former striker Steve Burr, now boss at Norwich, and Dave Hodgson who was recently sacked by Darlington.

Former boss Brian Horton's assistant Ian Brightwell, currently caretaker manager, was also interviewed and is believed to have impressed the board with his professionalism and attention to detail, but Ince has been picked for his larger-than-life personality which the board hope will bring back the crowds.

Fans turned their attention to Ince for the first five minutes of the game on Saturday but he left hurriedly before the end to avoid questions and will not speak publicly before any deal is signed.

Ince, who has opted for Macc ahead of Accrington, lived in Alderley Edge during his days at Old Trafford and knows the area well and now lives on the Wirral. His last club was Swindon, who he joined from Wolves.

Would you like to see Ince as Macc's boss? Have your say.

Ince is a gamble as he has no managerial experience, but it would work out to be a brilliant appointment.

But the club need the fans to get off their backsides and do their bit.

This is deja-vu. Remember Carlton Palmer at Stockport? Big time charlie with no management experience. Bye bye Macc - back to playing Altrincham next season.

I'm a Man Utd follower and I know Incy joined Liverpool, but I wish him all the best of luck for his managerial career. After all when he played for United he gave his all for the cause and helped bring back the championship to OT after 26 years. I liked his guts and skills. Thank you Paul.
