Macclesfield Town

Preview: Grimsby v Macc

MACCLESFIELD's all-time top scorer Matthew Tipton is back at the club after unsuccessful spells at Mansfield and Bury.

He goes straight into the squad to face Grimsby at Blundell Park.

Manager Brian Horton admitted: "I may have made a mistake in letting Matthew go. But at the time we had Jon Parkin and both parties were ready for a change. However, I am now delighted to have him back on board. He was always a fans' favourite, with a good goal-scoring record who liked the atmosphere at the club."

Horton has also brought in experienced centre-back Rob Scott, 33, and 20-year-old striker Spencer Weir-Daley, who has joined on a four-month loan from Nottingham Forest.

Scott has 264 league games under his belt, mainly at Rotherham with spells recently at Oldham but with previous experience at Fulham and Sheffield United.

He can play at right-back, centre-back and sweeper and has been brought in to steady a defence that has already let in 13 goals. Leaving Moss Rose is 19 year-old Marvin Macdonald who has made only two appearances. He is going to Mossley on loan to gain experience.
