SILKMEN boss Brian Horton expects Wigan Athletic to field a full strength side for Saturday’s friendly at Moss Rose.
It will only be the Premiership newcomers second pre-season outing and Paul Jewell will be eager to bed in his new arrivals, including latest signing Stephane Henchoz.
The former Liverpool and Blackburn defender joined the Latics on Tuesday after being released by Celtic.
The 30-year-old was Jewell’s fourth signing of the summer after Rotherham goalkeeper Mike Pollitt and defenders Pascal Chimbonda and Ryan Taylor from Bastia and Tranmere respectively.
The Latics boss could also hand a debut to Australian Josip Skoko if he ties up a deal for the Turkish-based midfielder in time for Saturday’s game, but is likely to be without contract rebels Nathan Ellington and Jimmy Bullard, both of who have rejected new deals.
Wigan, who take on Preston North End tonight (Wednesday), will be the second club from the top-flight to visit Moss Rose this summer following the Silkmen’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
The game represents Brian Horton’s last chance to formalise his plans ahead of Macclesfield’s opening game of the new campaign at Leyton Orient in 10 days time.
The Town chief will also run the rule over trialist Allan Russell for the first time. Horton missed the former St Mirren forward’s debut at Northwich Vics because of a family bereavement.
