NEW signing Martin Bullock already knows he made the right decision in joining Macclesfield Town - before the season has even started.
The Nottingham Forest fan is delighted the Silkmen have been drawn against the club he supported as a boy in the first round of the Carling Cup.
And the former Blackpool winger feels the clash at the Forest Ground is just the icing on the cake after he moved to Moss Rose on a two-year deal.
“It was a nice little surprise when I heard the draw and I’m really looking forward to it,” said the Derby-born wideman, who turned down Chester, Carlisle and Stockport County to join the Silkmen.
The other major influence of his decision was the chance to team up with Brian Horton again.
Bullock, 30, worked under the Macc boss during a loan spell at Port Vale and with the Nationwide League representative side.
The ex-Barnsley player added: “Brian was obviously a major reason in why I decided to join. He knows what I can do and won’t expect me to do things I can’t.
“By signing David Beresford as well he has shown he wants to get the ball down and play and, as a winger, you rely on that and getting good service from the full-backs and midfielders.
“But I was also impressed by the club; the success the team had last season and also in the way they made me feel wanted.”
Many Blackpool fans were surprised to see manager Colin Hendry release the former Tangerines player of the season, but Bullock, who played alongside Michael Owen and Rio Ferdinand for England U21s, was happy to move on.
“Colin Hendry wanted big, physical players,” explained the nimble midfielder. “But I’m happy to be at a club which is going places.
“It’s not a lot of fun fighting relegation and I didn’t want to join another club in a relegation battle.
“But here I’ll be going for promotion - I would love to be playing against Blackpool next season in League One.”
