Macclesfield Town

Come and get me

KEVIN Townson has urged Macc Town boss Brian Horton to sign him on a permanent basis.

The Rochdale striker, who spent the last six weeks of the season on loan at Macclesfield, will be a free agent after his contract expires on June 30.

But Townson has revealed he would love to return to Moss Rose - and promised Silkmen fans they've not seen the real Kevin Townson yet.

'I'll be a different player,' said the 22-year-old marksman. 'I would be a lot fitter after a good pre-season and would have a manger who believes in me.

'There's a lot more to come without a doubt. If I can get myself fit I know I can score goals at this level - and for Macclesfield.'

Townson made eight appearances for the Silkmen, mainly as substitute, but failed to hit the target after joining on deadline day.

But the Liverpool-born forward has promised to break that duck should he agree a new contract - something he is keen to do.

He added: 'I had a really good time at Macclesfield. The players and manager were great and I really enjoyed it. I'd loved to go back and play for Macclesfield full-time.'

Townson only made one start at Rochdale after falling out with Dale boss Steve Parkin at the end of the 2003/4 campaign. He went on loan to Conference club Scarborough but returned after five games when his father had a heart attack.

Horton swooped after seeing the one-time Manchester United and Everton target score a spectacular goal against Macc reserves. And the lively frontman would love to repay the faith the Silkmen chief showed him.

'All I wanted was the chance to play football again and Brian gave that to me. I hope I have the opportunity to repay him next season.'

Meanwhile, Horton has given veteran defender Tony Barras 24 hours to sign a new deal - or he will look elsewhere.

Its nice to hear players such as Kevin Townson actualy wanting to play for the club and manager other than the Tiptons of this world who want to use the club to play at a higher levelwhich seems to have backfired in his case signing for Mansfield on a 12 month contract for "silly money "as he informed Bury when turning them down at the last minute, as we know Mathew it takes you a season to settle in and Mansfield will have a new manager if your new one did what he did at county.Great choice for captain in Morley confident player confident captain looking forward to the new season.
