Macclesfield Town

No plans for ground-share

Macclesfield Town chiefs have dismissed rumours suggesting they have been in talks with Stockport County about a possible ground-share.

Newspaper speculation had suggested the Hatters would move to Moss Rose for the start of next season. But Silkmen chairman Rob Bickerton has squashed any potential link-up.

'The rumours are completely and utterly groundless,' he said. 'It's just idle gossip. There have been no talks between Stockport County and Macclesfield Town.'

With Cheshire Sport, who own both County and rugby union side Sale Sharks, currently in negotiations with the Hatters' Supporters Trust about a possible takeover, it had been suggested the League One club would look to ground-share to cut costs.

But County's managing director Kevan Taylor said he had not heard about any plans. He said: 'It's important we keep County in Stockport.'
