Mac set to move

MACCLESFIELD Town look set to swoop for Neil McKenzie this week after his club Mansfield admitted they would listen to offers for the unsettled midfielder.

The 28-year-old, who returned to action last weekend, is on loan at Moss Rose until February 26, but Mansfield boss Carlton Palmer has indicated that he would be willing to do a deal before then if the offer was right.

He told us: 'Although we're struggling in midfield for injuries at the moment, we have got an offer on the table for Neil and we're considering it.'

Macc Town boss Brian Horton refused to comment on the deal, but is known to rate the midfielder highly - putting him straight into his starting 11 last weekend after three weeks out injured.

McKenzie walked into a war of words with Mansfield boss Palmer which cost him one week's wages after initially signing for Macc Town in December.

The former Stockport County boss took exception to an interview McKenzie gave to the Nottingham Evening Post - which effectively spelled the end of his career at Field Mill.

He signed for Macc on a three-month loan, but was injured in his first game at Rushden. After making his return last weekend, McKenzie was given a standing ovation by the Macc fans after he was substituted in the second half.

Horton turns his attentions to Wycombe Wanderers this Saturday, hoping his side can start to find some consistency in the final third of the season.

'We've got to start putting back-to-back results together, particularly after such a good result last weekend,' he told us.

'There is room for improvement, and if we are going to get anywhere this season we need to start putting a few more points on the board.

'On Saturday we had probably the most experienced 16 I have been able to name since I've been here, and to be honest, I could have made a few more changes after the Darlington result.

'But there are a couple of players who are a bit unlucky not to be in the side at the moment, but their time will come, and like I have told them - we will pick up injuries and suspensions over the next couple of months.'

Horton said both new club captain Matt Carragher and goalkeeper Steve Wilson would figure for the Reserves this week.
