FA Cup Preview: Alfreton Town v Macclesfield Town

MACCLESFIELD have plenty on their plate to avoid an upset at Unibond Premier Division leaders Alfreton.

Alfreton have hurtled through the non-league pyramid and, if they can maintain their current rate of progress, could make the jump to League football in 18 months.

Macc are still without Mark Bailey, who is working hard to recover from ankle ligament trouble.

There are also question marks over Simon Weaver, who has had his loan contract extended by a month but faces a late fitness test, and Matty Tipton, who limped off in last Saturday's win at Mansfield.

Michael Welch, Mark Briscoe and John Miles will all be eager to get off the bench and have another opportunity in the first team.

Skipper Tommy Widdrington said: "We don't want to be shown up on the Match of the Day cameras on Saturday night.

"Alfreton, like a lot of non league sides, have taken advantage of the Bosman ruling to snap up some good ex-professionals."

This is sloppy!

Can't even be bothered to research properly to find out what League the opposition play in.

I guess Mr Carter thought the game should have been a walkover judging by his report on the game.

If the Alfreton management needed an incentive to gee up their lads then that report is it.
