MANAGER Keith Alexander has asked for patience from Macclesfield's fans ahead of tonight's visit of Port Vale.

The Silkmen have claimed just one point out of the last 15 but their under-fire boss says he has a long-term vision.

"Macc fans must understand that I am trying to build a new, younger team that can challenge next season and we are preparing now," he said.

"We've made a £100,000 in transfers, had a good run in the FA Cup and for a Macc side not be looking over his shoulder at this stage of the season is something new."

Macc have beaten the Potteries side twice already this season - but Alexander hardly gave supporters cause for high hopes by saying: "You never beat the same team three times in a season."

Alexander is having to cope without star man Terry Dunfield who has moved on to Shrewsbury, but said: "Terry had quality. But he only scored two goals in 70 games and it was right that the club got some money for him before his contract ran out at the end of the season.''

James Jennings will be missing for at least a month with medial ligament damage and either skipper Sean Hessey or Ahmed Deen will stand by. Wing-back Izak Reid will start after being rested.

On-loan Tom Elliot is likely to retain his place with more experienced front runner Francis Green will continue on the bench with John Rooney.
