MACCLESFIELD boss Keith Alexander blasted his "awful" players after Morecambe handed them a Boxing Day battering.

A 4-1 defeat means the Silkmen have now conceded 10 goals in their last three matches, leaving their manager livid.

"It's a very disappointing result, a pretty awful performance," he said. "We just can't seem to defend properly."

Alexander revealed he is on the hunt for reinforcements at the back after watching Macc throw away Izak Reid's third minute opener.

Goals from Henry McStay and Danny Carlton before the break were added to by Stuart Drummond and Rene Howe in the second half.

"I have made enquiries about two centre-backs," said Alexander.
