MACCLESFIELD suffered their heaviest ever league defeat as they were blown apart by rampant Darlington.

It was Macc’s fourth successive League Two loss and in that run they have conceded 14 goals without a single reply.

On loan Darlington striker Billy Clarke opened the scoring in the 27th minute when he stole in front of cumbersome on loan centre back Clayton McDonald to slot home a Liam Hatch cross.

Worse was to follow in the second half with Clarke slamming home a 30-yard left-foot drive in the 53rd minute.

Macc centre back Richard Walker then notched a classic own goal with a powerful downward header.

Clarke added his hat-trick from the spot as Macc skipper Sean Hessey was sent off for brining down Gregg Blundell in the box.

Four minutes later Blundell crossed for Clarke to tap home his fourth.

The final blow was a stunning 30-yard drive from Neil Austin that left Macc keeper Jon Brain grasping at thin air.
