MACCLESFIELD were hurtling towards relegation, despite playing some culltured football, until the board gambled on League Two specialist Keith Alexander, whose back-to-basics approach carried them to safety.

TERRY DUNFIELD: Former City trainee was the midfield kingpin and heart and soul of the club's revival. 7

JAMIE TOLLEY: Finished an injury-plagued season strongly by playing his way back into the set-up. 6

LEVI REID: Lacked punch and was not given an opportunity to improve under Alexander. 4

FRANCIS GREEN: Scored some vital goals at the start and the end of the campaign. 6

MARTIN GRITTON: Makes up for lack of pace with touch and vision, but injury-prone. 6

DANNY THOMAS: Exciting winger who has added grit to his game. 7

GARETH EVANS: Young striker needs to add composure and cutting edge. 6

MICHAEL SYMES: Disappointing loan signing from Shrewsbury. 5
