Macclesfield Town

Preview: Grimsby v Macclesfield

Ian Brightwell
AFTER draws against two sides tipped for the top, Macclesfield manager Ian Brightwell believes his side can beat any team in the division.

And he takes his new-look team to Grimsby brimful of confidence, despite the departure of Danny Swailes to MK Dons in midweek.

Brightwell is likely to unleash his new G-force attack from the start for the first time, with Martin Gritton, who scored after three minutes of his debut as a second-half sub on Saturday, partnering Francis Green, the early front-runner in the League Two scoring stakes with three goals.

Also making a claim will be midfield terrier Jordan Hadfield, though he will have to work hard to displace former City and Bury man Terry Dunfield, who has impressed as a playmaker.

Brightwell, whose side face a team who have also drawn their first two games, said: "We are going to go out to try to win every game, and that goes for Grimsby as it does for every other team in the division."

The manager has been casting his eyes over new centre-halves, with former Manchester United trainee Ashley Westwood, now 30, completing a trial at the Moss Rose.

Last season: Grimsby 1 Macclesfield 1

Key opponent: Isaiah Rankin - Forward is yet to get off the mark but is still dangerous

Prediction: Grimsby 1 Macclesfield 1 - It should be a tight game but Macc are more than capable of returning with a point
