Macclesfield Town

Ince has the last laugh

Paul Ince
FORMER Macclesfield boss Paul Ince got the better of the Moss Rose boo-boys as his new team stole a late undeserved point.

Jeered as he entered his former stomping ground, Ince appeared to be heading for an unceremonious exit when Macc took a 3-1 lead after 63 minutes.

But Ince said: "I never stopped believing, especially when we got back into the game through Leon Knight's volley as having been here last year I know that Macc often draw games they should win."

His prediction was right as Colin Cameron drilled home the equaliser from the edge of the box in the fifth minute of injury time. The defeat left new boss Ian Brightwell still looking for his first win.

"We are all devastated in there. Though we have taken a point against one of the better teams in this division, we feel like we have been beaten," said the popular former City star.

MK Dons took the lead in the 19th minute when a Kevin Andrews' low-skidding drive slipped through the fingers of Tommy Lee. But Macc replied on 33 minutes when Francis Green moved onto a pin-point Adam Murray pass to lob giant keeper Willy Gueret.

It got even better after the break as sub Martin Gritton scored within three minutes of his debut with a sharp reaction volley after a Carl Regan header had been cleared off the line.

They then went further ahead with Green's third goal of the season, a scintillating 25-yard drive to the top corner.
