The statement went on: "This follows a meeting involving FA chairman David Bernstein, FA general secretary Alex Horne and Fabio Capello at Wembley Stadium.

"The discussions focused on the FA board's decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello's response through an Italian broadcast interview.

Bernstein said the resignation was the right course of action.

The FA chairman said: "I would like to stress that during today's meeting and throughout his time as England manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner.

"We have accepted Fabio's resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future."

Bernstein and the Club England management team will hold a media conference at Wembley at 12 noon.

I bet micah Richards is chuffed. Beware! Harry redknapp is not a genius. The spurs players under-performed to get juande ramps sacked then started playing to their potential making Arry look a lot better than he actually is. Rather have him than capello though.

Harry would do well to stay well clear of Bernstein and his cronnies, and stay in the job where he's secure, never mind becoming a scape goat for the Bernstein mob when it all goes t#ts up.

Capello resigns over having his own opinion, leaked by the media.
Harry found "innocent" on the same day, loved by the media, sainthood awaits.

All I can hear is Copello,s name being said over again, it,s as if the fall of Rome, the end of the Third Reich, the resignation of Cameron ,the walls of the White House come tumbling down, can it REALLY BE that an Italian football manager has drank his last cappuccino and tasted his final una pizzetta in England!!
I think we have just witnessed an earth shattering moment when the the football High Priest has resigned from the high altar of football.
Let us all continue preying that another idol be installed asap so we can continue to bow down to almighty football!!
