BURY'S run to the third division play-offs last season was based on their outstanding away record.
But on-loan defender Dave Challinor believes the key to success is for the Shakers to put their own house in order.
Yesterday's game with Kidderminster at Gigg Lane, and this week's visit of Southend United, provide Bury with an outstanding opportunity to move well clear of the relegation zone.
Challinor made his third appearance yesterday since moving from Stockport and he's made a massive difference to the solidity of the team.
And he said: "There are a lot of young players in the side and it does take a bit for them to come out of their shell and demand things from people.
"If I can give a bit of experience to them all the better.
"These young lads don't need the fans getting on their backs.
Home fortress
"Most teams' seasons are based on home records.
"We shouldn't be losing many, if any, at home."
David Nugent is one of the young players who hasn't been seeing much first team action.
Indeed, the 18-year-old striker has been frozen out of Graham Barrow's first team plans as Bury have battled for survival.
He last featured against Huddersfield at Christmas and hasn't scored this season. But Barrow hasn't forgotten about the Liverpool-born marksman, who is one of the youngest ever players to make his Shakers' senior debut.
"Both David and Simon Whaley played in the youth team last week and their attitude was first class," said Barrow. "And that is what I want. I have explained to them that they are not out of the picture.
"We have got a number of players here on loan and they won't be here for ever.
