Preece sacked by Bury

BURY player-manager Andy Preece has today had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Preece appears to have been the victim of a cost-cutting exercise at Gigg Lane club, who are 12th in Division Three.

"This action has been necessitated by the need to make a significant reduction in expenditure in this financial year ending May 2004," said club statement.

"The board of directors would like to record their gratitude to Andy Preece for his hard work and loyalty throughout the last four difficult years."

Graham Barrow has taken on the role of caretaker manager for the foreseeable future while the board appoint a new chairman and undertake a detailed review of team affairs.

It is an absolute disgrace that Preece has been sacked after working virtual miracles. We can only hope that they are obviously going for the Ferguson Wenger Robson dream team to lead us back into the big time.

Preece just had to go. After watching Bury for over 40yrs. I have never seen a team play with such a lack of pride, passion and know how. Against Rochdale they where completely clueless, and for Preece to start with five across the back at home to"Rochdale" was scandless.

I can't believe it, what do you expect anyone to do with a club that has no money and very little support? Good luck attracting anyone better than Andy Preece, he was a dedicated and tireless worker, but as all working class people know, that is not enough for employers. Thanks for your efforts Andy, I hope you find a club with at least some ambition and come back to Gigg Lane with a team heading for promotion.
