JON Newby returns to Gigg Lane for the first time since his summer move to Huddersfield and the former Bury striker hopes for a good reception from the fans.

"There may be one or two that give me some stick but overall I think the majority should be okay," he said.

"Regardless of what people might say about my scoring record, I think they will appreciate what I did in my two and a half years with the club."

Chris Porter, Newby's teenage replacement this season, is rated only 60-40 against regaining his place in attack after an ankle injury.

However, Phil Charnock's decision to leave the club leaves manager Andy Preece with a midfield shortage as both George Clegg and Terry Dunfield are on the long-term casualty list. Lee Connell is likely to take Charnock's place.

Lee Unsworth, Matt Barrass and Danny Swailes have been under treatment this week but should play.

LAST SEASON: different division.

KEY OPPONENT: Jon Newby - still looking for his first goal.
