Newby moved to Huddersfield Town on a Bosman free but says it wasn't his decision.
"The top and bottom of it all is I wasn't offered a new contract by Bury," he said. “I’m on less money at Huddersfield now than I was when I first came to Bury two and a half years ago.
“Had Bury offered me a contract then I would seriously have considered it.
Plenty of interest
“It’s disappointing the club let the story go on that they had offered me a contract for less money and that I turned it down.
"I simply wasn’t offered a contract.”
Newby wasn’t short of suitors when he ran out of contract at Gigg Lane.
“I had six or seven clubs contact me,” he revealed.
“Out of all of them I feel Huddersfield was the best option from a playing point of view.
“I have signed a two year contract and they have the potential to get back in the second division.”
Are you disappointed that Bury didn't try harder to keep Newby? Have your say.
