Abbott, who has already had a successful spell at the Shakers, scoring five goals, has been given permission by Preston boss Craig Brown to return to Gigg Lane.
"It's an absolute blessing to have Pav back and we are all delighted he is here," manager Andy Preece said.
"He was superb for us earlier in the season and made a big difference. I think Craig Brown is probably sick of me ringing him, but eventually my perseverance paid off and I hope Pav can do well for us."
But Preece has his fair share of injury worries for Rushden's visit. Chris Billy (knee) and Lee Unsworth (groin) are both doubtful, while former Manchester City player Steve Redmond is struggling with an ankle injury.
Paul O'Shaughnessy, Matthew Barrass, Jamie Stuart, Chris Porter and Simon Whaley are also unavailable.
