JON Newby will be playing for less money next season if he decides to stay at Bury.

The Shakers' leading scorer is undecided about his future though he's in no hurry to leave Gigg Lane.

His immediate concern is to find the net for the first time in 2003.

His longer-term goal is to secure the best possible terms once his contract expires at the end of the season.

Newby admits he's been unsettled by the recent personal abuse from the terraces.
And as yet he's still waiting to be offered a new deal for next term.

'I haven't been told anything yet other than if I stay I will have to take a wage cut,' says the former Liverpool reserve. 'I have to be honest with people and say I don't know what is going to happen.

'At the end of the season I will be available on a free transfer. 'I think there were a few inquiries for me just before January. The gaffer has told me he wants to offer me a new contract but I don't think it's even up to him at the moment.

'However, if I was offered a new contract I would seriously consider it. And it would certainly go a long way for me to stay if we get promotion.

'If we get back in division two then it's good for the club and it's good for me. At the moment though it's a big 'if'.

''However, the important thing is that we keep winning games. Like everyone else here I'm desperate to get back in Division Two.'

Meanwhile defender Gary Evans has joined Unibond League premier division strugglers Hyde United on a months loan.

The Doncaster born full-back has made only one senior appearance for the Shakers-the final game of last season against Peterborough United.

Bury's home game with Oxford United, postponed last Tuesday for a second time, will now take place on March 25 with a 7.45 pm kick-off.
