LOANEE Stephen Turnbull can finally make his FA Cup bow for Bury tonight and wants to use it as a springboard to a permanent move to Gigg Lane.

The 19-year-old midfielder is on loan from Hartlepool and is hoping to force his way into manager Chris Casper's starting line-up for the second-round replay at League Two rivals Chester.

Tonight's winners will have a third round home tie against Championship side Ipswich to look forward to in the New Year and Turnbull is eager to play a part from the start, having been restricted to a substitute's appearance as the Shakers chalked up a 2-0 league win at Mansfield on Saturday.

Turnbull was not allowed to figure in the 2-2 draw against Chester that set up tonight's replay because Hartlepool did not want him cup-tied but that is no longer an issue now they have been knocked out.

"I want to be starting tonight," Turnbull said. "I don't want to sit on the bench. I know it's not easy for the gaffer with the rest of the midfielders playing well but I've come here to play games and that's what I want to do.

"If I am playing games, then I want to stay. If I am not playing games, then who knows?"

But despite Turnbull's pleas, Casper's biggest concern tonight is who will play in goal. Lee Jones, signed on an emergency loan from Blackpool, is not registered to play in the FA Cup and Alan Fettis is still injured.

So 18- year-old Aaron Grundy may be asked to step in for his third appearance in the competition this season if Andy Warrington has not recovered from the hamstring injury he picked up against Walsall last Tuesday.

Chester, who come into tonight's game on the back of Saturday's 4-1 win over Lincoln, have former Manchester United trainee Ashley Westwood available to return to their defence after suspension.
