BURY boss Chris Casper praised loan goalkeeper Lee Jones after the 2-0 victory over Mansfield.

Jones, drafted in just 24 hours earlier to answer another goalkeeping SOS, kept a clean sheet and impressed manager Casper.

"He didn't have a lot to do, because of a magnificent defence and two excellent centre-backs, but what he did, he did well," Casper said.

But Jones is not registered for the FA Cup and will not figure in the replay with Chester.

Injury

Casper is hoping that another loan keeper, Andy Warrington, will have recovered in time from an injury picked up in last Tuesday's home defeat with Walsall.

The Shakers were overrun for the opening 18 minutes, but then struck on their first breakaway attack to change the shape of the game.

Former Stags' striker Glynn Hurst burst clear down the left wing from a Mansfield free-kick. His clever ball into the area fell kindly for Andy Bishop who rounded the keeper and saw his goal-bound drive blocked by Alex John-Baptiste, before Marc Pugh rammed in the rebound.

Jones then showed his worth with a flying first-half injury-time save to tip away Giles Coke's curling 20-yard drive.

That proved vital in the 51st minute when a delighted Hurst scored at his old club after more hesitant home defending, this time from a Pugh free-kick.

Hurst's 12-yard shot looked tame, but it somehow evaded the diving Carl Muggleton and found the bottom corner to start the celebrations.
