CHRIS Casper is battling to retain the services of in-form loan striker Glynn Hurst who is due to play his last game for the club against struggling Boston.

The Bury boss is desperate to extend the Shrewsbury Town player's stay at Gigg Lane.

Casper has been locked in negotiations with Shrews manager Gary Peters in a bid to agree a new one-month deal with Hurst. However, Casper has made no secret of his frustration that, as yet, a new deal has not been struck.

Rested

"I'd love to keep him. The directors know that and Glynn wants to stay, but we'll just have to keep working at it," he said.

Hurst was rested on Tuesday night as the Shakers lost 2-0 at home to League One opponents Tranmere in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round.

But the former Stockport hitman has netted five times in four games, reason enough why Casper is so keen to keep the 30-year-old at Gigg Lane.

"I think Glynn brings experience to the team which we need," added Casper.

Meanwhile, Andy Bishop (flu) and defender Colin Woodthorpe (shin/knee) are both battling to be fit.
