BURY'S captain marvel Jon Newby described last night's Worthington Cup victory as his "proudest moment in football."
"Leading the club out on a Premiership ground and going on to win the game is a fantastic feeling," said the Shakers skipper.
"Everyone of the lads was magnificent," added Newby whose second half cross led to Frenchman Bernard Mendy putting through his own net, under pressure from Colin Woodthorpe.
"In the first half I don't remember Bolton having a clear cut chance and we had a couple of opportunities to score. In the second half when they went down to 10 men we exploited them time and again. We could have had two or three more goals.
"I thought some of the football we played; the movement and the passing was excellent."
Newby, whose seven goals this season have already alerted several bigger clubs, turned provider on this occasion.
"I wasn't sure whether I was on side when Pav played it but I got a lucky break for a change and the linesman kept his flag down," he explained. "Thankfully I got the cross in and Col managed to bundle it in off a defender.
The former Anfield reserve player is now hoping that Saturday's draw on Sky TV, will pair the Shakers with Liverpool.
"It would be nice to go back there but any of the big clubs, Man United, Arsenal - we don't mind now," he enthused. "I think we deserve a big draw after the way we played in the first two rounds.
"The Reebok Stadium has certainly been a happy hunting ground for Woodthorpe. The former Stockport defender enjoyed several good results against Wanderers in his Edgeley Park days. And he was keen to try and claim Bury's winner and his first goal for the club though it was widely accredited to Mendy.
"I got there before the defender," he insisted. "Besides I'm sure he won't want it."
Woodthorpe though admitted he felt some sympathy for Wanderers, adding: "I've been in their situation before. These games can be a nightmare to play in against clubs like us.
"And if they are not on their game, they are not going to be at the races and that's what happened."
