Bury 2 Notts County 2

Bury were denied a fourth win in five after a pulsating match which featured three penalties.

The Shakers twice led against a Notts County side that came into the game fourth in League One.

But the visitors cancelled out goals by Andy Bishop and Giles Coke, with Jeff Hughes scoring twice from the spot.

Bishop followed up his winner at Bournemouth on Saturday by giving Bury a fifth-minute lead with his fifth of the season.

Joe Skarz put a low cross in from the left and Shaun Harrad's lay-off deflected off Mike Jones into the path of Bishop, who swept home
right-footed from 12 yards.

Peter Sweeney was part of an impressive Bury midfield and his searching cross found Harrad unmarked, only for the summer signing to flash a first-time volley wide from six yards.

Bishop then hobbled off shortly after firing over following a one-two with Coke and Notts levelled in the 37th minute.

Efe Sodje's clumsy challenge on Lee Hughes was deemed a penalty and Jeff Hughes converted to Trevor Carson's left.

He should have had a second from Alan Sheehan's corner after the break, but Bury regained the lead 10 minutes after the break after  Krystian Pearce was penalised for handball from Coke's cross. With Bishop off, Coke stepped up and slammed the spot-kick down the
middle.

Bury captain Steve Schumacher then sent a free header wide and Notts reponded with four corners in quick succession, Pearce heading narrowly over from the last.

But the Magpies kept coming and the referee pointed to the spot for a second spot-kick against Sodje, this time for handball after blocking Neal Bishop's shot, and Hughes put it in the other corner to secure a point.

Bury: Carson 8, Picken 7, Hughes 7, Sodje 6, Skarz 7, M. Jones 8, Sweeney 8, Schumacher 8, Coke 8, Harrad 7, Bishop 7 (John-Lewis 32, 6). Not used: Byrne, Cregg, A. Jones, Belford.
