Bury

Chesterfield 1 Bury 0

Bury were in dreamland last time they came to Chesterfield, clinching promotion last April.

Five months on and their League One campaign is turning into a nightmare.

In sixth place with four games gone, four straight league defeats since leave the Shakers 19th.

Leon Clarke’s 66th-minute strike was enough to win it but Bury boss Richie Barker rued a late miss by sub Mark Cullen.

“I think we deserved something,” he said. “It probably sums our luck up at the minute.

“It had 0-0 written all over it - and I would have taken that but we were undone by a pub goal.”

Scott Boden shot too close to Trevor Carson, making his debut after signing on loan from Sunderland on Monday. Peter Sweeney fired wide for Bury, with new striker Shaun Harrad producing a tame shot after the restart.

But Chesterfield then found space down the right and squared for Clarke to sidefoot home, with Craig Westcarr firing wide moments later with Carson again exposed.

Andy Bishop was twice denied by Tommy Lee before Cullen was gifted an open goal four yards out.

Lee parried Dave Worrall’s low cross but Cullen explicably turned the ball straight back to the home keeper.

Bury continued to push forward but only an Ashley Eastham block prevented the hosts doubling their lead.

Bury: Carson 7, Picken 7, Sodje 5, Eastham 6 , Skarz 6, Worrall 6, Byrne 5 (Coke 68, 6), Sweeney 6, M Jones 6 (John-Lewis 77), Harrad 6 (Cullen 68, 5), Bishop 7. Not used: A Jones, Belford.

What another shameful performance from a team that looks a pale shadow of the one that finished 2nd last season in league 2.Time to send for a taxi for our Richie, you and the team are not up to standard in this league,Chessy are a poor team and we let them take 3 very easy points against us.

This was a massive let down to our travelling supporters,we never got going as a team and lacked any ambition to win the game.I think our plan was to sit back, soak up the pressure then take the point.Unfortunately we are simply not good enough to keep the opponents out.2 clean sheets in 11 games tells it's own story. If 4 defeats becomes 5 or 6 then i think the board will have to take decisive action as it is their mess with the distressing transfers of Lowe & Mozika which has caused all of this mayhem. The spirit has been lost and with it any hope to fulfill our ambitions robbing us fans of a much anticipated season.
