Striker Ryan Lowe praised caretaker boss Richie Barker for doing ‘an outstanding job’ as Bury won promotion to League One.
Almost two thousand Shakers fan made the trip to Chesterfield to see a thrilling 3-2 victory.
Fans and players celebrated on the pitch long after the final whistle as Bury returned to the third tier of the football league for the first time in nine years.
Lowe, who scored the winning goal three minutes from time, said: "“It wasn’t going to get taken away from us without a fight.
"People probably questioned us but Richie’s come in and done an outstanding job. All the lads had faith in him. Our fans sung their hearts out again they were brilliant. We can’t thank them enough – they’ve come out in their numbers all season.
"They wanted it just as much as us and that helps. We’ll go out tonight and celebrate – we deserve it,” he said.
It’s a fantastic achievement for the club which has operated on a shoestring budget and lost manager Alan Knill to Scunthorpe United last month.
Barker has stepped in and - with the help of senior players Lowe, Steven Schumacher and Efe Sodje – has won six games on the bounce the guide the Shakers to promotion.
The caretaker boss hailed the strong away support which cheered his side on to a memorable victory.
“I don’t know when the last time was Bury took 2,000 fans anywhere. I’m sure they’ve enjoyed the day and their weekend. It feels a bit surreal to be honest. I retired from playing two years ago and I thought that was the last time anybody would ever sing my name – it was brilliant. It was a great advert for League Two football between, I believe, the best two teams in the division.
"I said to the players before if you don’t want to play in front of this – you’re in the wrong game really. They went out and I don’t think one of them looked remotely nervous. There’s some young players out there who just took it in their stride.”
The visitors went ahead in the 12th minute when on-loan defender Tom Lees managed to poke home from a corner. And Bury looked far from overawed by the big stage, knocking the ball around with confidence.
The league leaders came out in the second half with more tempo and their dangerous attacking threat of Craig Davies and Jack Lester eventually broke through to equalise. Davies managed to fire through a crowd of players but the lead wasn’t to last.
A sweeping counter-attack led to Lowe firing a shot which fell kindly for Worrall to slot home a cool finish and send the Bury fans into ecstasy once again. Back came the home side and Lester drew them level with a close range finish after a clever dummy from Davies.
But Bury weren’t to be beaten and had numerous chances before the ball fell to the league’s deadliest finisher in Lowe – who kept his composure to curl the ball home.
What do you think? Have your say.

Very well done Bury. Thoroughly deserved. From a slightly low Stockport supporter.
Hope you get the title as well btw!
well done you shakers
Brilliant news..... fro.m a Man City supporter !!!
Congratulations to Bury Football Club and good luck in the coming seasons.....
BRILLIANT NEWS! As a United season ticket holder, I congratulate The Shakers. A side that has suffered the predictable lower league adversity of irresponsible benefactors, ITV Digital and the predictable drain that The Premiership applies down the football league ladder. Also a note of sadness to Stockport today...
Congratulations - the best footballing side in the devision
Absolutely thrilled for Bury - great season and result !
Hope you go on to consolidate .
Type your comment here...Well done us Shakers,so very sorry for Stockport, hope you bounce straight back. You dont belong down there.
Congratulations Bury. I'm a Rochdale fan and one thing I really missed when we got promoted to league 1 was the local derby matches against Bury. It will be great to play each other again and for us both to be in league 1.
well done lads , best wishes and have a beer or two tonight for me, up the shakers !!!
Well done shakers. Football is exciting whatever division it is and to see a relatively small club earn promotion so emphatically after the loss of their manager deserves credit. Could you ever see a premier league club winning six on the bounce after losing their manager? Clubs like this put the premier league to shame.
Congratulations to all at Bury Football Club. Being a MUFC fan I am very pleased to see "the shakers" get promoted. Hey, we want Nicky Ajose back :-).
Am I right in saying you have won more away games tahn anybody else in the whole football league? 12 !!.
ll done to all staff, players and supporters.
As a MUFC fan I am delighted to see Bury Football Club blast out of League-2. What a way to do it....12 away wins, most in the league. More to the point, what a job after Alan Knill walked away..well done Richie!! You deserve everything good and I hope you win the league. Niiiiiiicccccccceeeeee :-)
What a great day out at the b2net stadium. The Shakers were worthy winners and it was fitting that Ryan Lowe should get the winner. Some great performances but I would single out Kyle Bennett for a special mention he is maturing into an out standing young player. Well done Richie Barker!
Well done so pleased for you and my 3 mates who follow Bury everywhere.
Well done Richie and the lads we proved today that we can really perform on a big stage and blow away the oposition with ease.Chesterfield have been at the top of league two all season but we all know which is the best side in this division,it's Bury fc.We are not a small club only a club that has realised it's ambitions,we don't be,long in the bottom tier and our gates will soar next season given the number of derbies and big games we can look forward to.Now get behind the lads push for the title i can't see Chessy winning at Torquay or Gillingham,A win and a draw should do it.
I remember a few years ago, that Bury had collection buckets at Old Trafford to save themselves from going bust.
I went to Gigg Lane where there were supporters from many other Clubs trying to do their bit to help.
Fantastic to see the efforts back then have now been rewarded.
Enjoy !
Absolutely brilliant, Bury lost their manager with 8 games left and have won 6 in a row, deserve to go on and win the league. 2000 away fans is a brilliant effort consideringour average home attendances, have had great away support all season and excellent away form!!
Congratulations well deserved too, wish i could have been there to see it..!
Cogratulations Bury. Back where you belong for now and then higher next year if you keep up the tremendous form.
