Bury

Bury 5 Vauxhall Motors 2

BURY motored into the second round of the FA Cup for the first time since 1999 but victory at Gigg Lane was achieved at a price.

The Shakers collected a welcome '16,000 win bonus for knocking out their Conference North visitors.

The match was settled by half-time with Graham Barrow's team 4-0 up thanks to a Dwayne Mattis double and further efforts from Chris Porter and skipper Dave Challinor.

However, just a minute into the second half Challinor was stretchered off with what looked to be a serious knee injury after an innocuous challenge on Darren Wright.

Paul Scott replaced him and it was the substitute's poor header that allowed Wayne McDermott to rifle home a spectacular 60th minute effort.

And the League 2 outfit were rocking when Karl O'Donnell added a second goal in the 73rd minute.

But Bury killed off any hopes of a comeback when man of the match Dave Nugent, provider of the opening two goals, deservedly found the net himself.
