Scott began the season with Huddersfield Town but was soon on his way to Bury on a non-contract basis.
Manager Graham Barrow's problem was a necessity to move someone out before he could permanently sign the Yorkshireman.
The decision to terminate Lee Duxbury's contract last weekend paved the way, and Scott has put pen to paper until the end of a campaign Bury hope will end in promotion.
"My aim now is to stay in the team and to help the club do well," says the 25-year-old defender.
"Hopefully, I can play in all the games this season and look at negotiating a deal for next season.
"The staff and players have been really friendly and they've made me very welcome. With results going quite well, it looks as though we could be in for a good season.
"Signing this deal gives me that little bit of stability and I can relax now and get on with settling into the club. When I first came to Bury I was never told I wouldn't be wanted. It was just a case that the gaffer couldn't sign any more players."
Wakefield-born Scott hasn't walked into a totally unfamiliar dressing room as Jon Newby and Dwayne Mattis are two former Huddersfield teammates.
"Paul has been first class from day one when he walked in here on trial," says Barrow. Tweet
