CHRIS Porter earned 10-man Bury a share of the spoils against newly-promoted Chester - but boss Graham Barrow will have been disappointed his side did not take all three points against his former club.
An error from Shakers captain Dave Challinor handed the visitors, who have still not won this season, the lead against the run of play at Gigg Lane.
City's Kevin Rapley seized on Challinors under-hit back pass and squared the ball for Michael Branch to grab the opener on 22 minutes.
Chris Porter and Dwayne Mattis both wasted good opportunities to level the scores as the Shakers dominated the first 45 minutes.
Porter grabbed an 59th-minute equaliser when he swept home Lee Unsworth's low cross after a poor clearance from City keeper Wayne Brown.
Veteran defender Colin Woodthorpe was dismissed in the 90th minute for a professional foul after he brought down Michael Branch on the edge of the area.
The home side surged forward in search of a winner but Chester clung on for a point.
