BURY boss Graham Barrow has admitted his frustration at not being able to sign any more players this season.
Barrow is keen to sign trialist Paul Scott, the former Huddersfield defender, who has spent a fortnight with the Shakers.
However, Bury, which went into administration in March 2001, have had an embargo imposed on them which prevents Barrow from securing the signature of any more players - unless someone leaves.
Scott played for Bury Reserves in the midweek 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury Town in the Pontins Holiday League Division One West.
And Barrow has made no secret of his desire to strengthen the Shakers' defence.
"I'd have played Paul last week if I'd have been allowed to sign him," said Barrow.
"He's done very well and he looks a useful player, but my hands are tied.
"The embargo is a bit stupid. It's in place to stop us from getting into financial trouble, but we've got lots of youngsters at the club this year and the wage bill is not high. Some of the younger lads are on wages which just about allow them to keep playing first-team football."
Keen
Barrow is keen to bring in players he needs to help the club push for a play-off place.
"I'm at pains to get this embargo lifted," added Barrow.
"I just feel a couple of extra players would give us strength in depth.
"I'm going to have a word with the board and see whether they can do anything. It's up to the Football League, though, to decide whether to cut us some slack. I'd like to sign Paul Scott, but you can only hang on to players for so long. It's not fair to string anyone along."
Barrow has also been casting his eye over another trialist, the former Swansea, Cardiff Cityand Liverpool Reserves striker Layton Maxwell.
However, Barrow has not been as impressed with Maxwell as he has withdefender Scott.
"Layton's a good player. He didn't make it at Liverpool, but had three good years at Cardiff City, but he's not impressed me as much as Paul has," Barrow admitted.
