BURY completed their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory over Stalybridge Celtic at Bower Fold.

And teenager David Nugent gave himself every chance of starting against Yeovil in the opening League game on Saturday with his third goal in two games.

Nugent and Brian Barry-Murphy netted in the second half at Bower Fold.

Manager Graham Barrow's main worry was the absence again of Dave Challinor. And with Danny Swailes out for a minimum of a month, the Shakers could be missing their two key defenders for the visit of the Glovers. At least keeper Glynn Garner returned to action as Bury are desperately short of cover for last season's player of the year.

On his preferred striking option Barrow says: "We have mixed them up a little bit more behind closed doors.

"And the is potential there. But you have to say to all of the strikers, it's about goals and it's up to them to make up my mind for me."

Of Nugent, Graeme Jones, Chris Porter and Jon Newby, only Newby so far has failed to find the net.
