BURY boss Alan Knill received a boost on several fronts before his side's trip to struggling Grimsby on Saturday.

The club's horrendous injury list is shorter and the manager suddenly has competition for places.

Long-term casualty Andy Bishop will see a specialist this week and is expected to be given the all clear to resume training.

And Ryan Cresswell and Damian Allen will also both be back in training today after recovering from respective knee and groin injuries.

Up front, striker Tom Elliott - resigned on loan from Leeds United - will be eligible to return to action at Grimsby.

Knill said: "We should now have competition for places and that keeps everyone on their toes."
