Former Sheffield United defender Cresswell is expected to be sidelined until the New Year after damaging ankle ligaments in the 2-1 victory over Chesterfield on Tuesday.
Futcher now has an opportunity to get the run of games so far denied him this season.
"I've not had a lot of football over the last couple of months," said Futcher, who has only started one of the Shakers' last 12 matches.
"We've not got a reserve team and those friendlies the gaffer arranged were called off because of the weather.
"It's never nice to see a fellow team-mate get injured in that way.
"But it's been frustrating for me being out of the team.
"So I've got a chance to come back in and I hope I do well."
"It would have been nice to get a clean sheet but I'm glad we won the game."
