But the Silkmen felt hard done to by referee Mike Pike who sent-off Matt Carragher after 77 minutes.
And it was Carragher's dismissal for bringing down David Nugent that altered the course of the game.
The Silkmen claimed Carragher wasn't the last man and they also believed there had been a foul in the build-up to Porter's 10th of the season.
However, Bury took full advantage to avenge their early season defeat at Moss Rose.
Substitute Harpal Singh, now scheduled to return to Leeds, broke into the area and crossed for Porter to score from close range.
And almost on the final whistle 18-year-old Whaley netted his first senior goal with a yard drive.
Macclesfield though deserved not to finish empty handed. Bury's player of the season Glynn Garner made two vital saves from Jon Parkin to deny Town an interval lead.
And Garner later thwarted Paul Harsley before Bury found their goal touch to finish off the season with a first win in five games.
