LANDLORDS beat tenants as goals by Brian Barry- Murphy and Danny Carlton secured Bury a 2-0 victory over their non-League ground-sharers FC United in front of a Gigg Lane crowd of 1,144.

But this was no pre-season stroll for the slick Shakers, who were given a thorough work-out by Karl Marginson's UniBond League semi-pros in this the first friendly meeting of the clubs in three years.

Barry-Murphy gave Bury a dream start by blasting them in front at the second attempt after his initial free-kick had found its way back to him via the inside of a post.

Ben Deegan, FC's new signing from neighbours Ashton United, then brought a smart save from Cameron Belford.

Bury responded to boss Alan Knill's half-time promptings, although they had to wait until the 66th minute for the goal which finally killed off the part-timers.

Carlton made amends for an earlier miss by firing calmly past Sam Ashton.

Sam Aston made severial good saves last night and could in no way be blaimed for either goal, so your remarks Pushkin are somewhat harsh.

My only hope was that Bury FC considered it a "home match" for FC United and charged them to play there. I'm actually becoming a big supporter of Tony Glennon articles, especially after dropping the "part-timers" label on FC. Thank you Tony! I think I recognized a few Bury academy players on the pitch during the match. One lad couldn't have been over 14. I can't wait for another exciting season of FC United coverage on the MEN website.

He's kept us in a few games has Sam so we can't be too harsh on him. I think for the team to not look out of place against Bury is encouraging for the new season even if it was only a friendly. The nucleus of the team is still intact from the end of last season as well and with the few additions we've had it's all looking good. Probably jinxed it all now haven't i.....

I think Sam has been off the boil pre-season he looked a bit patchy against Bucheon and against Radcliffe, but he'll make good and in any case any semi-pro team only losing 2-0 to a XI pro-team 3 divisions above us is a perfectly respectable result.

Next up, Hyde United FC v FC United, Saturday 1st August 2009, Kick off 3:00pm. This game is to be played at Ewen Fields, Grange Road, Hyde, Cheshire, SK14 2SB. Admission POTG, Adults £7, Concessions £3, Under 16s Free.

Directions By Car: M60 junction 24, take the M67 (towards Sheffield) to junction 3 (Hyde Dukinfield Stalybridge). Once on exit slipway keep to the right hand lane heading for Hyde centre. At traffic lights at the end of the slipway turn right onto Clarkway. Once on Clarkway/Reynard Street at the second set of lights turn left (Morrisons superstore will be on your left) onto Mottram Road. At the first set of lights on Mottram Road turn right onto Lumn Road. After approximately 200 yards you will come to a ’giveway’ sign. There you turn left onto Walker Lane where after approximately 50 yards you will see Hyde Leisure Pool on your left. The entrance to Ewen Fields is to the right hand side of the leisure pool.

Public Transport: Train - Newton (For Hyde) is the closest station to the ground. Trains depart Manchester Piccadilly every 30 minutes (destination Hadfield). On arrival at Newton (For Hyde) station you need to cross under the tracks and walk down Castle Street to the main road (Commercial Brow/Halton Street). Turn left and walk over the motorway bridge (you will be able to see the floodlights ahead of you) and down the hill until you get to the traffic lights. Turn left onto Mottram Road and then first right onto Grange Road North, first right again leads you into Miles Street and the entrance to the football ground is at the end of the street. Approx 10 minute walk from the station.

Bus - The 201 Stagecoach service from Manchester Piccadilly/Newton Street stops off at Hyde Bus Station. The service runs every 10 minutes.

Next up, Maine Road FC v FC United, tomorrow, Tuesday 4th August 2009 k.o. 7:45pm. This game is to be played at Brantingham Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester.

Admission POTG. Adults £5, Concessions £2, Under 16s Free and as with all FC United's pre-season friendlys we pay nothing for ground hire and receive half of the profits from gate.

Directions: By Car: M60 to junction 7, A56 towards Manchester. At traffic island follow signs for Lancs CC, turn right at next set of traffic lights signposted A5145 (Chorlton-cum-Hardy/Stockport), through next set of traffic lights. Take left fork at Y junction (traffic lights) onto A6010 (Wilbraham Road) to Chorlton. Through traffic lights (ignore pedestrian lights) for approx 1 mile. Left at next traffic lights into Withington Road, first left into Brantingham Road. Ground 300 yards on left.

From North: M60 clockwise to junction 5 onto A5103 towards Manchester Centre for approx 2 miles, turn left at traffic lights (Wilbraham Road) A6010, then right at 2nd set of lights (Withington Road), first left into Brantingham Road. Ground 300 yards on left.

Public Transport: The 85 Stagecoach service from Manchester Oxford Road stops off at Wilbraham Road/Wyverne Road. The service runs every 10 minutes. Viva la Revolution, come on FC.

Dukinfield Blue, losing by 2 goals to a side 3 divisions above you does not constitute a "spanking". If anything, that's a great result, considering that Bury are pre-season favourites to earn promotion.

It's too difficult a concept to explain to them Andrew. Whereas realists and those of a non-bitter persuasion would suggest this was a good workout for a pre-season and there was no shame in losing by two to a team three divisions higher up the pyramid. Where's Dash gone too? We miss you. Me miss your humour. Please keep commenting.
