BURY’s miserable run of home defeats stretched to five at the hands of 10-man Grimsby.
The visitors had not won a league match in 22 attempts extending back to March, and lost midfielder Jean-Paul Kalala to a second yellow card after 36 minutes.
But by then the Mariners were two up courtesy of some shoddy Shakers defending.
After 17 minutes defender Ryan Cresswell made a hash of a Grimsby cross, heading it in the air beofre compounded his error by hesitating. That allowed Liam Trotter to dash in and head home.
Five minutes later David Buchanan lost out in a tackle with Jamie Clarke and his cross was turned in by Nathan Jarman.
Grimsby dug in for a siege after Kalala’s dismissal and under fire Shakers boss Alan Knill brought on top scorer Andy Bishop for the second half.
But Bury were devoid of inspiration and only came close when Andy Morrell’s touch to Cresswell’s header was cleared off the line and when substitute Glynn Hurst fluffed a great injury time chance.
