BURY have all but banished thoughts of relegation thanks to a stunning Nicky Adams strike at the New Meadown.

Adams hit his 12th goal of the season in remarkable fashion on 70 minutes when he drilled a left-footed shot from all of 30 yards into the top right hand corner.

It took a while for the game to spring into life, with both sides struggling to adapt to the inclement weather conditions.

Top scorer Andy Bishop could have opened the scoring for the visitors after 17 minutes, but former Bury keeper Glynn Garner diverted his shot wide of the post.

Garner was in action again just before half time when he came off his line to thwart Bishop, who failed to control the ball.

Shrewsbury had more shots and more possession as the game went on - but that will not bother Knill and Bury one bit.

All they will be thinking about is the Adams' screamer that pushed them further towards mid table with the seventh win of Knill’s reign.
