BURY'S three-game winning streak was halted abruptly by an improving Wrexham side who just can't seem to haul themselves off the bottom of League Two.

Today Mansfield's win meant that the Welshman remained rooted to the Football League basement.

Bury blew hot and cold, but only had a smart headed finish from Glynn Hurst to show for their efforts.

Chances were at a premium in a first half which featured precious little goalmouth action at the Racecourse Ground.

Andy Bishop was looking his usual dangerous self however, particularly on 22 minutes when his well-directed drive was well saved by Red Dragons' keeper Gavin Ward.

It was the hosts who took the lead three minutes later though.

The experienced Drewe Broughton flashed in a low shot which just beat the outstretched arm of Shakers stopper Darren Randolph.

Alan Knill's side appeared determined to get back on terms before the interval though, but they didn't manage it until stoppage time.

Brian Barry-Murphy floated in a free-kick from the right, and there was Hurst who popped up to head home just in the nick of time.

Wrexham held sway in the opening stages of the second period, but Nicky Adams shot just wide for Bury just before the hour mark.

The hosts' pressure eventually paid off with just 13 minutes to go. Michael Proctor had looked lively all afternoon, and it was he who wrapped up the victory for Brian Little's side when he fired home from close range.

Sub Simon Yeo and skipper Paul Scott both missed late chances for Bury.
