AN 83rd-minute debut winner from Ricky Shakes enabled Brentford to continue their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 win at Bury.
The visitors went in front in the 23rd minute. Kevin O'Connor was fouled 25 yards out, and Glenn Poole curled home a spectacular free-kick right into the top corner.
Paul Scott replied with a low shot which was superbly beaten away by Ben Hamer, but Brentford almost doubled their lead in the 42nd minute when Sammy Moore's curling free-kick bounced off the top of the Bury crossbar.
And the Bees were stung when Bury levelled matters just 13 seconds after the restart. Nicky Adams played in Andy Bishop, and the sought-after striker calmly struck from 12 yards.
Adams and Richie Baker also went close for Bury, but Shakes had the last word when he thrashed home the loose ball from 12 yards after Ben Starosta's long throw-in was not cleared.
