GLYNN Hurst is still waiting for his first Bury goal of the new season - but he is not worried.

The experienced striker has been playing long enough to know that all goalscorers experience droughts during their career.

But the Shakers need Hurst to be firing on full cylinders, especially after they slipped nine places down the League Two standings following Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Wycombe.

"I haven't scored yet, but that isn't bothering me at the moment," admitted Hurst, who was on target 13 times last season for Chris Casper's team.

"People will be asking questions because I haven't scored yet, but we've had a decent start to the season and the team have been playing well."

Having been a success at Gigg Lane since he joined the club from Notts County, Hurst is confident the goals will flow in his second spell.

But the 30-year-old former Stockport, Chesterfield and Shrewsbury centre-forward,refuses to put added pressure on himself to score.

"Obviously I'm paid to score goals, but I think my performances so far have been very good," he added.

"I haven't been scoring, but my confidence is high and I think my overall contribution has been very good.

"I'd love to score, but I know that if I keep working hard then the goals will come. No striker likes to not be scoring, but you have to be patient sometimes."

Bury shone in an impressive opening day win at MK Dons, before a battling second-half performance saw them grab a deserved 1-1 draw at home to Grimsby, a result which elevated them to fourth in the table.

And despite defeat by a single goal to Wycombe, Hurst remains positive.

"We've had a good solid start to the season. The way we are playing is more to our strengths and more direct," he said.

"The test comes now on Saturday against Brentford. I'm sure we'll see a reaction from the players."
