Bolton Wanderers 1 Manchester City 3

BOLTON'S makeshift defence helped Manchester City land their first Premiership victory in 15 games at the Reebok.

Sam Allardyce had urged his side to put next week's Carling Cup Final out of their minds but then fielded two debutants in his defence and Bolton paid the price.

They had the boost of a 22nd minute lead goal by Kevin Nolan who crashed home a superb cross-shot from the left of the penalty box after Youri Djorkaeff had floated in a freekick from the right.

But City were level five minutes later when Robbie Fowler was left unmarked to score with a close range free header from Michael Tarnat's corner.

Fowler struck again four minutes later when he ran clear onto a long clearance from keeper, David James to score with a vicious drive, which gave home keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen no chance.

City sealed their first victory since 1st November when Simon Charlton prodded a cross by Steve McManaman into his own net from six yards five minutes after the resumption.

It was a game which never hit great heights, but Allardyce is now faced with lifting his side for next week's game against Middlesborough at Cardiff after just the result he didn't want.

Yes, yes, yes. Boy did we need that. But let's not forget that we had our fair share of injuries and suspensions. Van Buyten injured. Anelka, Bosvelt, and Barton suspended. Sun Jihai only just back from international duty with China. One swallow doesn't make a summer but boy did the ale taste sweet tonight. Come on you blues.

Quite correct Paul,we had a makeshift side out too but unlike the trotters we overcome it. Quite honestly Simons comments aren't far off the mark either because listening to some of the after match opinions their fans and Alan Gowling in particular shown a bitter side of their personalties by failing to give City any credit by putting their defeat down to bad defending,it was but the City team induced that by a superb display of power, team spirit, and finesse, keep it up blue army!

I've had an idea for you Bolton Squanderers fans, next time we play you at the magnificent City of Manchester Stadium, why don't you bring your Village of Horwich Stadium with you? I'm sure it would fit nicely in a corner somewhere, after all, it's not that big is it?
