Davies bids to win Bolton place

BOLTON boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed that former Blackburn star Kevin Davies will link up with the Trotters for their Italian pre-season training camp.

The striker has been allowed to move on by Southampton after failing to establish himself under Gordon Strachan.

The 26-year-old will spend a week with Wanderers in their training base at Bormio, trying to prove himself worthy of a deal with the Reebok Park side.

“Kevin will be with us for a week,” Allardyce told the club's official site.

“Many other clubs have been chasing him and we are fortunate that he’s chosen us to train with.

“We’ll have a look at him and take things from there.”

Davies made his name with Chesterfield – hitting a hat trick for the Spirites in an FA Cup match at Burnden Park – before moving onto Southampton.

His £7m move to Blackburn failed to work out through injuries and poor form, and he returned to the south coast, only to struggle to secure a first team slot there.
