SAM Allardyce is hopeful of making the French connection later this week by completing the signing of Florent Laville.

The Lyon defender was outstanding during his four-month loan spell last season.

And with Gudni Bergsson's retirement, Laville would be a vital acquisition for Wanderers.

"We are hopeful of reaching a successful outcome this week," said a club spokesman.

"We have held ongoing talks with Florent and his representatives and the signs are encouraging."
