Bolton appear to have won the battle to sign veteran German midfielder Dietmar Hamann from Liverpool.

It was widely anticipated the 32-year-old former international would join Manchester City - having initially rejected a move to Wanderers - after being told by Reds manager Rafael Benitez he was surplus to requirements at Anfield.

However, the Merseyside club have this afternoon confirmed Hamann's destination is actually the Reebok Stadium, with Bolton boss Sam Allardyce apparently stepping in with a successful 11th-hour offer. Tweet
