JAY-JAY Okocha and Bruno N'Gotty are to leave Bolton.
Boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed the pair, whose contracts expired after Sunday's final game of the season, will not be returning to the Reebok.
Playmaker Okocha has been with the Trotters for four years while defender N'Gotty joined in January 2002.
"Jay-Jay and Bruno will go down in Wanderers folklore, not only for what they brought to the club in terms of experience and quality, but also for what they helped us to achieve during their time here," said Allardyce.
"Nobody will ever forget their contribution.
"We are looking to reduce the overall age of our squad and it was a tough decision not to offer them new deals."
Allardyce will now look to bring in as many as FIVE new players in the summer.
He said a few weeks ago that he would review his own position at the end of the season and, after the disappointment of failing to land the England job, and the prospect of a limited budget to improve his squad, there is plenty of talk that he wants to leave for a club with a higher profile.
But Allardyce revealed he is already planning for the summer, even though he will be thinking about the future while on a charity trek to the Mount Everest base camp.
Strategy
"I have done some extensive research in the last few weeks on our recruitment strategy and I am hopeful that we can bring in at least five new signings in time for next season," he said.
Holidays
"My objective is to make as many signings as possible before the World Cup. I have seen a lot of matches in the past few weeks, across Europe, and some of our targets are coming to fruition.
"I review my own position wherever I finish, every year, to see what I have achieved. I will certainly do that over a period of time, when I get on my holidays, but we have had to disappoint a few players by not offering them a new contract. But one or two lads are getting a little bit longer in the tooth and if we are to stay in the top half of the Premiership we have to change and get younger."
Bolton's hopes of a place in European competition were finally dashed when, despite their victory, Newcastle claimed seventh position and a place in the Intertoto Cup by beating champions Chelsea.
"We have let ourselves down with the results from the last ten games, with two wins and two draws, which killed us off in terms of clinching that UEFA Cup spot," said Allardyce. "We increased the pressure on ourselves by doing that, and our worst performance from the last 10 games was yesterday - and we won!
"It was down to one thing, our failing in front of goal, which we got right against Birmingham despite having fewer opportunities than in any other of the last ten games."
Teenage Portuguese striker Ricardo Vaz Te made it a happy ending to a frustrating first season for him at Bolton by scoring the winner, drifting in at the far post to side-foot a volley past Brum goalkeeper Maik Taylor from Kevin Nolan's precise cross.
That made it a goal in each of the final three home games for Vaz Te.
Who would you like to see brought in over the summer? Have your say.
