Walker close to joining Wanderers

BOLTON are close to finalising a deal with former England keeper Ian Walker.

Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce wants the 33-year-old, who has been released by Leicester, to sign a contract in time to join Bolton on their tour of the Far East next week.

Allardyce told the club's official website: "Ian Walker is a possibility. We are hopeful that he can perhaps join us in the next day or so if we can tie a deal up.

"We'd like him to come away to Thailand with us because we desperately short of cover for Jussi Jaaskelainen."

Allardyce has already recruited Oman international keeper Ali Al-Habsi but he has to stay at his Norwegian club FC Lyn until December.

Would Walker be a good signing for Bolton? Have your say.

He would be excellent cover for Jussi Jaaskelainen but nothing more. Walker has had his fair share of inconsistency throughout his career

Couldn't agree more. I feel we should be focussing on other areas of weakness within the squad. Easier said than do though I suppose.

Yes, I agree with Nick and Mark a very good signing for Bolton -- a keeper with international credentials is always welcome.
